The new academy features a 30' Pro Arena Elite Series Mixed Martial Arts Cage, Over 2,000 sq. ft. of Olympic grade Zebra Tatami Mats, Built in Movie Theater, Full Fitness area, Built in Efficency Suite with full kitchen and sleeping quarters and much more.

Team Odyssey Demo's for Modern Army Combatives Competition Minimize

 

U.S Army Call On Team Odyssey

 

 

            On November 3, 2007 Fort Eustis hosted the 8th Transportation Brigade Modern Army Combatives & Boxing Competition. Each company brings forth their best fighters to compete in both Modern Army Combatives competition which consist of Grappling with submission holds such as Arm Locks, Chokes, Shoulder Lock and etc… with the goal of forcing your opponent to “Tap Out” and standard Boxing which consist of punching combinations used to earn a “Knock Out”.

 

 

            Fort Eustis U.S Army Base contacted Odyssey Martial Arts Academy/Camarillo Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu Network located in King William County Virginia to perform a twenty five minute Mixed Martial Arts demonstration as a special guest kick off for the competition. Members of Team Odyssey that participated in the demo consisted of Emily Dawson, Markia Anderson, Kayla Harley, Gabby Ellis, Britney Layton, Alex Taylor, Collin Taylor, Ryan Kindley and Dylan Brooks. Odyssey Martial Arts Academy is the only official Modern Army Combatives school in Virginia certified by the M.A.C Head Quarters Fort Benning Georgia. Odyssey’s Head Instructor John Simons III is a Level 4 Modern Army Combatives Instructor certified by the U.S Army Combatives President SFC Matt Larson. Level 4 is the highest of honors as a Combatives Instructor and is a rare find in the U.S.

 

            The demonstration performed by Team Odyssey featured Flying Submission Holds, Big Air Throws, Bone Crushing Slams and Hard Hitting Punches and Kicks. Over 2,000 U.S Army Soldiers stood and erupted in cheer and applause for the talent demonstrated by these young Mixed Martial Arts phenoms. To award Odyssey’s performance, the Commander of Fort Eustis U.S Army Base presented each participant a certificate of recognition.

 

 

  

 

            Team Odyssey is also scheduled to attend and compete at the Valhalla 3 Mixed Martial Arts Championships to be hosted at the Fort Lee U.S Army Base on November 10, 2007.                The sport of Mixed Martial Arts also known as “Ultimate Fighting” is exploding into mainstream viewing through shows such as The Ultimate Fighter, IFL (International Fight League), UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), and more. What you don’t see is what goes on behind the scene, what makes these spectacular events happen? The answer is event sanctioning and event promotions. King William County’s Mixed Martial Arts school Odyssey Martial Arts Academy is on the leading edge of the sport with the plans to start their own MMA competition league.

 

                This past Saturday at Odyssey Martial Arts Academy representatives from the ISCF (International Sport Combat Federation) instructed a Mixed Martial Arts Referee & Judge certification seminar. 9 members of Odyssey Martial arts attended this course and received certification to Referee, Judge and Host ISCF sanctioned MMA events on an international level. These members include Jason Kecekler, Tracey Anderson, Trudy Shipes, Jossie Wilkins, Ryan Kindley, Bailey Martin, Bob Whited, Chad Davis & John Simons III.

World Record Spar-A-Thon

On Saturday, February 17th, 2007 560 martial arts students, teachers and champions across the United States sparred nine thousand five hundred and eighty-nine rounds in one hour, establishing a new World Record for the most rounds sparred simultaneously in one hour nationwide. The martial arts studios participating in Project Action’s First Annual World Record Spar-A-Thon also raised funds which will help needy children in their own community benefit from martial arts training.

High Energy Fitness & Karate in Tunkhannock Pennsylvania raised the most money with donations totaling $3,000. Odyssey Martial Arts in King William Virginia was in second place with $2,869 raised but were in first place for number of rounds sparred with 1,560.

On Saturday, February 17, 2007 thousands of

martial artists across the United States will be

participating in Project Action’s World Record Spar-A-Thon fundraiser to help prevent juvenile crime. Help fight the cycle of juvenile crime by

being a part of this historic attempt at setting a World Record for the most rounds sparred in one hour nationwide. The Project Action Foundation is a nonprofit award winning national children’s charity that prevents juvenile crime by placing

disadvantaged children into positive, goal oriented, physical and cultural  arts programs. The money raised in your community helps children in your community.

UGM Editor John Simons III ran a article on NMAD for Project Action in the March 07 issue of UGM. The story features the results of National Martial Arts Day's 06 Kick-A-Thon. There is actually an error in the story. Odyssey Martial Arts Academy should be featured as the #1 Fundraising academy with $5300.00. This error occured because it was sent in before the final count was completed.
